“If I can do it, you can do it!” HCPS Superintendent Dr. Amy Cashwell gets behind the wheel of a school bus to raise awareness about bus driver recruitment.
This Saturday, get behind the wheel of a big yellow school bus and see what it’s like to be part of the team that transports 28,000 students a day across 245 square miles. Henrico County Public Schools’ “Drive the Bus” event at Hermitage High School is a hands-on chance for potential bus drivers to take a bus for a spin around a driving course. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot near the school’s Chester E. Fritz Stadium. (A valid Virginia driver’s license is required.)
Stop by, drive the course and learn about the advantages of becoming an HCPS bus driver, including job duties, work schedule, pay and benefits. Attendees can interview at the event for positions with the school division. As a qualified bus driver candidate, you’ll also be paid as you train. Driving a school bus is more than just driving, it’s about playing a crucial role in the lives of students, parents and the Henrico community.
