LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee University women’s track and field team competed in the first day of the VMI Winter Classic on Friday evening.
Senior distance runner Carolyn Todd (Cumberland Foreside, Maine / Greely) had the highest finish of day one with a second place showing in the 5,000 meter run. Her time of 1756.51 is an indoor personal best and cracked into the program’s top-5 record book.
Katelyn Gamble (Houston, Texas / The Kinkade School) qualified for the 60 meter dash finals with her time of 7.68 seconds in the semifinals, her fastest mark this season. The time is currently the second best 60m time in Division III. Gamble will race in the finals tomorrow at 12:25 p.m. and was the only DIII student-athlete to qualify in either set of 60m finals.
Ashley D’Ambrosia (Henrico, Va. / Collegiate School) was the top DIII finisher in the women’s pole vault event, the sophomore cleared a height of 3.06 meters and placed ninth overall.

The rest of the squad will compete on Saturday, the second day of competition at the VMI Winter Classic.
