Student charged after Henrico school employee injured trying to break up fight

HENRICO, Va. (WWBT) – A Henrico County Public Schools employee was injured while breaking up a fight at a school.

The district said there was a fight between students at Varina High School on Wednesday.

Police said the incident caused a large police and EMS response at the school during the school’s lunch hour.

An employee helping to separate students was hit and received a cut to the forehead. The employee was taken to the hospital and is expected to be OK.

A student, 18-year-old Taylor Nicholas Goodman, was charged with malicious wounding.

The school stayed in a “lock and teach” for the rest of the day to prevent further disruption.
