Project SEARCH is a partnership between VCU Rehabilitation Research and Training Center (RRTC) the Virginia Department of Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS), St. Mary’s Hospital, and Henrico County Public Schools. The Project SEARCH graduating class of 2021 consisted of 6 students from Godwin High School, Tucker High School, Freeman High School, Varina High School and Hermitage High School. Instead of reporting to their home schools, these six student interns spent their entire school year at Saint Mary’s Hospital gaining job readiness skills as interns in various departments throughout the hospital. Some served as interns in St. Mary’s Mother and Infant Unit/Nursery, The Spine Center, Labor and Delivery, Environmental Services, Women’s Imaging Center, Inpatient Pharmacy, Morrison Nutrition Services, and Materials Management. Each intern completed 3 internship experiences and are now working with DARS to obtain competitive employment in the community.
