NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster men’s lacrosse team won, 25-8, over Thiel in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) game Wednesday on Senior Night.
“It’s always good when guys get opportunities to get on the field,” said head coach Travis Brown. “We played a little better offensively early on than I anticipated, so I was happy with that. In total, getting all our guys reps and opportunities in game-like situations against someone not at practice is always beneficial.”
The Titans had five hat tricks, led by senior Joe Rosa (Newton, NJ / Kittatinny Regional) with five goals and first-year Gavin Jones (Henrico, VA / Douglas S. Freeman) with four. Registering a three-goal performance were junior Hamish Mathwin (Marion, Australia / Westminster), junior Ryan Greer (Cranberry Twp, PA / Seneca Valley), and sophomore Payton Waight (Ithaca, NY / Ithaca).
Titan sophomore Colin O’Malley (Pittsburgh, PA / North Allegheny) gathered in a game-high nine ground balls, while dominating face-offs (16-for-17). First-year Brody McGuinness (Heber City, UT / Wasatch) registered a game-high three caused turnovers. Titan sophomore goalkeeper Bradley Green (Landisville, PA / Hempfield) earned the win.
Westminster improved to 8-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play, while Thiel dropped to 4-8 overall and 2-2 in the PAC.
The Titans are back on the field Saturday, April 23 at Bethany with a 1 p.m. start time.
