HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — Henrico Police are investigating a shooting that stalled traffic on Interstate 64 west near Nine Mile Road on Thursday afternoon.
On Thursday just after 4 p.m., a Virginia State Trooper was helping a disabled driver along I-64 westbound on the Shockoe Valley bridge near the 191 mile-marker.
While the trooper was with the driver, a second car pulled up. The driver of this car requested assistance from the trooper for a passenger with apparent wounds from a shooting.
The trooper and the VDOT Safety Service Patrol helped the victim while emergency crews responded to the scene. The victim was taken to the hospital with critical injuries.
Henrico Police said the shooting happened in the 2700 block of Byron Street around 4:20 p.m.
Traffic along I-64 westbound was merged into a single left lane while police worked to collect evidence and clear the scene.
All lanes have reopened as of Thursday evening.
