Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam joined officials from Henrico County and Facebook on Sept. 26, 2018, to announce the company will invest an additional $750 million to expand its Henrico Data Center. The facility is under construction in the White Oak Technology Park in eastern Henrico and is expected to begin operations by mid-2019. The expansion will increase the data center from two to five buildings, totaling 2.4 million square feet. Facebook first announced the project in October 2017. The company’s initial investment totaled $1 billion — $750 million for the data center’s first phase and $250 million for solar facilities throughout the state to power the data center with renewable energy.
