Vaccination provides strong protection from COVID-19, even for individuals who have had the disease and developed natural antibodies from it, says Dr. Danny Avula, director of the Henrico County Health District and Virginia’s vaccination coordinator. The greatest benefit of vaccination is that it prevents at a high rate both hospitalization and death, Avula told the Henrico Board of Supervisors on Aug. 10. “That’s ultimately what we’re trying to accomplish with vaccination,” he said. “We’re trying to keep people out of the hospital and we’re trying to keep people from dying.”
