HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — One adult was taken to the hospital and two children were treated at the scene of a house fire in Henrico.
Firefighters were called to the 5800 block of Staples Mill Road, near Dumbarton Road, at about 10:24 Wednesday morning.
“First arriving units reported smoke and flames visible. There were reports of multiple people and animals trapped, however, all people were out of the structure upon arrival,” a Henrico Fire spokesperson wrote in an email. “A citizen passing by entered the structure and assisted in removing one of the occupants prior to the arrival of fire personnel. Fire crews encountered heavy fire but were able to bring the fire under control.”
The adult’s injuries were not considered to be life-threatening.
One dog and two reptiles died in the fire.
Three other dogs and a bird were injured in the fire.
The cause of the house fire remained under investigation.
