Absentee ballots are typically processed on Election Day after the polls close. But this year’s surge in mail-in ballots required a new approach for the Henrico County Office of Voter Registration and Elections.
Since October 2, election officers have been validating tens of thousands of ballots.
“This is something new that we’ve never engaged in before, but the sheer volume of by mail ballots required us to get ahead of it,” explains Henrico County Deputy Registrar Anne Marie Middlesworth.
