The HCPS technology department has a difficult job.  They try to keep our young people safe and within the Code of Conduct while using the internet.  Because of this, most forms of electronic communication are blocked by our filter, including blogs made by teachers on such popular sites as blogger.com, wordpress.com, and edublogs.com.  However, they have agreed to support us in our use of blogs on henricoenglish.com as long as we adhere to two simple rules.

Rule One:  You must keep all comments moderated.

Your blog will come with the comments already set to moderate (comments won’t show up until approved by the administrator), you just need to leave it that way.   The image below shows the moderation screen from the behind-the-scenes, administrative part of your blog.  To get there, you must log into your blog, choose Manage from the top menu, and then choose Awaiting Moderation from the submenu.  Read each comment, choose the appropriate button to approve or delete, and then press Moderate Comments.

Rule Two:  No full student names.

Having your students put their names with comments is important, so you can give students credit for their work.  However, federal law prohibits schools from posting full student names on the internet.  Because your blog will be available to anyone on the internet, please have your students use first name and last initial only, and do not approve any comment that has a full name in it.
