In February, we celebrate Open-Mindedness as well as Black History Month.
Grade 9: Seminars open with our Speakers Corner for the first two weeks. Students will assert aspects of the Learner Profile in persuasive speeches, shared with their peers.
February 14 and 21 will be devoted to the documentary “Free At Last” which recounts the struggles of the American Civil Rights Movement. Students will consider what American identity means. The worksheet for this film is here and it is due to your biology teacher: Free At Last2012
Grade 10: Sophomores will watch the feature length film “Something the Lord Made” as they contemplate how one person makes a difference, especially in the Jim Crow South. The worksheet is here and it is due to Ms. Brown (NOT Mr. Rigler as this sheet says): Something the Lord Made
Grade 11 will begin its Extended Essay journey. Students are referred to the page to the right on Extended Essay.
Grade 12 will explore open-mindedness and connections with a series of documentaries on race in America. “A Ripple of Hope” recounts Robert Kennedy’s contribution to the Civil Rights Movement. “NOW with Bill Moyers: Zaid Shakir on Being Muslim in America” discusses extremism and how Muslim-Americans are burdened with prejudice born of fear. “Brown is the New Green: George Lopez and the American Dream” explores being Hispanic/Latino in America today. This worksheet is due to TOK by 2/14: Sr Seminar_Black History. This one is due to TOK by 2/28: Senior Seminar_Feb
