January is the month in which we celebrate the Learner Profile trait of being PRINCIPLED. To that end, all seminars have to do with ethics and what the ethical thing to do would be  in various situations.

Grade 9:

January 3:  ”Personal Ethics and the Future of the World” documentary. “Whose Responsibility Is it?” worksheet due by next seminar to be graded in HISTORY. Whose responsibility is it

January 10: “Making Choices” documentary. “Questions for Discussion” due next seminar to be graded in HISTORY. Questions for Discussion_EThics

January 17: Group discussion. Reflection on one scenario due in History by January 24. Making Responsible Choices –To be used in seminar discussion/activity; Grade 9 Seminar_Ethics scenarios – reflection for history grade

January 24: No seminar — midterm exam week

January 31: We will begin our February celebration of Black History month and the trait of open-mindedness.

10th grade:

Students will watch the documentary, The Children of Chabanne, which recounts the story of a small French village that risked their own lives to save Jewish children in World War II. Now that we are done with the Personal Projects, we begin the serious examination of our year’s theme: How can one person make a difference?  The worksheet, Sophomore Seminar_Chabanne, is due in HISTORY class after the conclusion of the film.

There is no seminar during exam week.

11th grade: 

Students will watch ABC’s Primetime “Ethical Dilemmas” and “What would you do?” scenarios. The worksheet for the first scenarios is here, ABC Ethical Dilemmas. Others will come shortly; all are due in TOK before exams.

There is no seminar during exam week.

12th grade:

Students will watch the feature film, “My Sister’s Keeper,” to evaluate the medical ethics of conceiving a child for organ and tissue donation for her cancer-stricken sister. The worksheet, My Sister’s Keeper, is due in TOK before exams.

There is no seminar during exam week.
