Teen Day of Service

The YMCA of Greater Richmond is partnering with the City of Richmond to host a Teen Day of Service! All students in grades 6—12 (you do NOT have to be a Y member) are invited to come get their hands dirty, meet new people and serve our great city on May 7th. Volunteers will gather at Festival Park (next to the coliseum) at 8:00 a.m. and break into groups to volunteer for the day in city parks and city schools.
Interested participants must sign up at a YMCA branch BY April 18th—parents must sign for participants under the age 18. ASK Walk 2011

On a side note, the annual ASK Walk is coming up! It will be Saturday April 30th, 2011. 8:30 starts the FunRun and 8:35 starts the FunWalk. There will be games and entertainment for the rest of the day and like last year, it will be hosted at Short Pump Mall. Join “Priyanka’s Herd.” Casey Shimp will also be bringing in order forms for people to take home and get signed.

April is Open-minded month.
Grade 9 will continue with our Personal Project Parade! On 4/5, Tucker freshmen will visit to share the wisdom of this year’s sophomores in their PP experience. On 4/12, there will be an in-depth presentaiton on how to use ManageBac for the PP as well as visits from Ms. Kenney, finance, and Mr. Jeremiah, activities director and facility use coordinator. Proposals are due in English class 4/15!
On 4/26, we will take a break from the PP to watch the wonderful documentary, “The World According to Sesame Street.” Its worksheet is here: The World According to Sesame Street
Grade 10 will finish up “Invisible Children” with its update on 4/13. After break, we will watch the documentary, “Maya Lin” until SOL time. The worksheet is here: Maya Lin
Grades 11 and 12 will have orientation to IB Exams in April, in anticipation of the exams which begin May 3. Please see the page to the right “IB Exams”
