PAK/AFGHAN Cultural Festival featuring 3 CUPS OF TEA hosted by Maheen Khan
Its a fundraiser for Greg Mortenson’s PENNIES FOR PEACE project through which schools are being built in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
There will be Food(Pakistani and Afghani),activities,entertainment,door prizes,Henna tattoos and a breif Presentation by Maheen Khan.
Admission fee $2 per adult/ children under 6 free.

Rachel’s Challenge

Deep Run High School will be hosting Rachel’s Challenge on Wednesday, September 29 at 7 pm. Please view the attached 2 minute trailer for this program and be reminded of the tragedy that took place one fateful day in 1999. Rachel’s life on earth was short, but her family and friends have committed the last 10 years encouraging Compassion, Respect and Kindness as they’ve met with over 11 million teens and tweens across America. Summer Governor’s School for the Arts Info

There will be two interest meetings for students in the 10th and 11th grade interested in attending the Summer Governor’s School for the Visual and Performing Arts for Dance, Visual Art, Theatre, Instrumental and Vocal Music on Wednesday, October 6. The AM meeting will be held from 10:00-10:30 a.m. in the auditorium; and the PM meeting will be held from 1:55-2:30 p.m. in the auditorium. Students may attend either session, but not both. Students must obtain a permission slip to attend the meeting. Permission slips may be obtained from Ms. McCray in the Center for the Arts Office on Monday October 4 and Tuesday October 5.

College Visits Begin!!

Please find attached the current list of College Visits. An announcement is being made this morning that will contain the visits for next week. College Visits2010
A few things to point out:
- The list is not half as extensive as it was last year. This is mainly due to cutbacks for travel.
- More colleges will be added. This list is always evolving. I will make sure all updates are given in a timely fashion.
- Most of the visits are in the afternoons. We are at the mercy of the recruiter’s schedule.
- Most of the visits are marked for the North Cafeteria. This is also subject to change. When a student signs up for a pass, the location will be displayed on the pass.
- Students will still have to sign up before the visit – this does not include signing up before 8:00 in the morning the day of the visit. I will stop taking names for the visit at 4:00 the day before. Any student not on the list will be asked to leave. This is for accountability and safety purposes.
- Only during the first week will Ms. Lucas, who is in charge of this process, allow for students to sign up the day of. The sign up book for visits will be on the counter of the school counseling office on Monday.
