The Contest
The Quest for Citizenship in the Americas
Who doesn’t love a contest? After seeing other blogger contests, I decided to start one on my own. Since Black History Month is this month, why not incorporate that with some easy technology.
You can find the rules here.
Basically, the idea is to create a short project that highlights the life of an African American in any of the content areas taught in High School. The theme for this year’s Black History Month is: “The Quest for Citizenship in the Americas,” so that can be the inspiration of your topic also.
The celebration of Black History week in 1926 began with Carter Woodson, and now has grown to a month long celebration and has spawned Woman’s History month, Hispanic Heritage Month, and others. But this has created some controversy best summed up by Carter Woodson himself:

So I’m hoping to promote African-Americans in history, and use this site year round, not just in February. Thus, the more contributions the better.
This site is also good for a launching point for research and for discussion.
The blogroll on the right will give you sites you can use for research, the Library of Congress is copyright free!
Secondly, to discuss African American history outside of this year’s specific theme, go to the Categories drop down, or here, you can see some posts I’ve created for discussion.
