This Week’s Agenda

Detente Cartoon

IB 20th Century World Topics

This week the students will be studying how the failure of the United States to obtain victory in Vietnam will result in the detente peace talks of the 1970’s.  The students will study the Nixon, Ford, and Carter administrations up until 1979, and will observe how these administrations worked to achieve “detente” with the Soviet Union.  Interviews of Secretary of State Henry Kissinger will be observed, as well as scholarly interpretations of detente, and whether it was successful or not.  We will end the week with an introduction to the Soviet-Afghan War.  Materials for the unit may be found in virtual share and SchoolSpace, and deadlines with the due dates are found below:

 Industrial Manchester England

World History II

The Congress of Vienna restored calm and civility to the European landscape in the aftermath of distruction brought on by Napoleon Bonaparte; however, the peace did not last long, with such tumultuous events as the unifications of Italy and Germany completely altering the physical and political landscape of Europe forever.  Despite these historical changes, for the time being at least, Europe placed its differences aside in the name of economic advancement, a time period more commonly known as the Industrial Revolution.  Inventors and economists around the world brought new machinery and ideas to countrys’ economies, altering the economic, social, and day-to-day lives of everyone around the world forever.  The goal of the students this week is to identify these eventions and economic ideas, and to see how they changed the European world.  Events such as the enclosure and social welfare movement will be studied, and inventions by such men as Eli Whitney will be studied.  Assignments and their deadlines can be found below:
